Records players are cheap, plentiful and easy to come by. I understand if you're living in a shelter or your car; but if you can get yourself a Nintendo Switch, an IPad, a PS4 and a laptop, there is no reason why such a self-respecting Hip-Hop head shouldn't have a record player. Trust me, there's no reason to be intimidated by the various models, features, etc. Unless you're a hardcore DJ, you really don't need to know about types of drives, needles, etc.

I love this record, picked it up a year or two ago on the strength of the length. Not enough 15 minute tracks these days.
ReplyDeleteGreat to find this vid! Good crate diggin', Werner. Love me some Jimmy Spicer...just to say that Count Cool Out went on to be Witchdoctor who released a couple of records on Timberwolfe Records. Check out the 12" Takin' No Shorts from 87/88....fresh! Peace out. S.
ReplyDeleteJust to add...there were actually 4 members of Witchdoctor...alongside Count Cool Out there was Mellow Man Dee, Rock Master J & Witch Doctor himself (he's the DJ). Don't know much else about them except they had 2 releases on Timberwolfe: "Kickin' It Live" ('87) (as Witchdoctor & The Dominating 3 MC's) That is in a spooky rather scary picture sleeve! And then "Takin' No Shorts" 12" ('88) then that's it...It's all out dopeness. Just pure NY/east coast golden age hip-hop. Certainly worth the investigatin' and the diggin'...Up on youtube no doubt.
ReplyDeleteDamn, you sold me - I'm gettin' those records! =)
DeleteYo! Nice one Werner! Think you'll like these 2 joints for sure...they'll certainly be glued to the turntable for quite sometime! An album would've been the biz..shame they didn't get one out.
