Records players are cheap, plentiful and easy to come by. I understand if you're living in a shelter or your car; but if you can get yourself a Nintendo Switch, an IPad, a PS4 and a laptop, there is no reason why such a self-respecting Hip-Hop head shouldn't have a record player. Trust me, there's no reason to be intimidated by the various models, features, etc. Unless you're a hardcore DJ, you really don't need to know about types of drives, needles, etc.

ReplyDeleteNeed to get my hands on those cassette only Digital Underground songs.
Thanks for this one. Cassettes were definitely the choice for most heads back then. I wanted the tape so I could play it outside. I wanted to play it in cars, in my boombox, at other people's houses, etc.
ReplyDeleteI didn't start avidly buying vinyl until maybe '94 when all the great independent stuff was all over college radio. The only place to get the music was on vinyl 12 inches or to just be happy to have it off of a recording from the radio.
Anyways, I always dug this tape and haven't really revisited it in a while, so I didn't realize there were exclusive joints to the cassette. Thanks again.
